My only fear in this process is that I someday could not care for my Man. Our sons have assured me they would take over and I rest with that but -
Would they know – - -
to quietly touch the correct cutlery if he needs help
to offer him a soapy facecloth as they clean his eye glasses
to set his clothes out for morning
to suggest he shaves while “I put coffee on”
to pull the comics from the daily paper and set them on top it
to dial the phone if he wants to call someone
to go into all appointments with him
to set his meds out by his milk in the morn
to make sure he always has $100. in his wallet
to ask him to help fold the dried towels
to remind him when and where he got his Christmas Cactus if he forgets
to let him pour the milk for meals
to always have lots of tomato juice, cashews and peanuts on hand
to offer (not ask) his meals or snacks
to look through the photo albums every week
to discuss the ocean, lobsters, his Grandpa and strawberries
to talk to him about everyone by name
to help him put CD’s on to play music
to allow him to arrange his pillows how he wants them at night
to check he’s never over or under dressed
to read him all the emails and show him any with pictures
to let him help decorate for Christmas, July 1st and Halloween
to go to him if he has nightmares and hold him til they are over
to tell him how much I loved him
I know you guys would – but you know Moms – they have to leave lists:) xx oo
