Carrying two large bags of groceries, the stranger tripped on the curb, falling right in front of us – groceries scattered, bags torn. Clutching her knee in silence, she stayed on the ground. Over and over he asked if she were all right – then lifted her up as I gathered the groceries.
Turning around I saw the most tender sight – they were holding each other as she steadied herself against him. If only you knew -
We walked to her car and got her settled. After assuring us that she could drive, we watched her car disappear around the corner.
That evening he appeared with the ice bag I keep for all my aches and pains – “How’s your knee, Hon?”
