The house was cold, empty, void of life. When I would arrive home from my long shift, it made me sick to think he was here alone all day.
So, against my better judgment, off to the SPCA we go. His heart is set on a black cat, I suppose because Midnight was such a good kitty til her demise many years ago.
Wee arms reached out, “Take me, take me.” As we were leaving, I knelt down, sure I had caught a glimpse of black.
Curled up on a little pad lay Lynx. He had given up or was just too laid back to bother. My Man spoke to him and Lynx rubbed on the cage. Hearts melted.
We were “interviewed”, handed over our MC and had to come back the next day to get him – do they do back ground checks? Anyway, it gave time to buy all the various stuff new parents need — the economy was boosted from that day forward.
Lynx proved to be so affectionate and loving that a new name was in order. Being he followed his master around all day like a dog, sat at his feet and on his feet to sleep, he was became Buddy.
When we camped, on went the leash and harness – Buddy strutted around like a dog, plume held high. One guy at our campground said, “When I come back, I want to be your cat.” Cute.

As I probably have mentioned before, usually my Man sleeps forever – til 3pm or even 5 if I don’t wake him. This morn I staggered out at 9am and guess who is sitting in his recliner reading the paper – the newspaper from the front step!
Lately I have been working very hard and crash. Last night I slept til 2am, got up til 4am and subsequently was so tired I didn’t hear him get up. Normally the slightest movement and I’m awake.
Fear gripped my heart “for what could have been” – especially going outside. Fear for a short circuit telling him to keep on walking. Now I’m in a pickle, as they say, do I hang our bells on the bedroom door? He would be a tad unhappy to discover my “system”.
By the way, we have a registry called “Home Again” which is a central data bank with vital stats, a recent pic, contacts, etc. Also, a bracelet to be worn – which he won’t – “I’m not that far gone.”
Anyway, the RCMP in Canada can quickly access the info if your loved one should decide to take an “unauthorized” walk and get lost or disorientated. Good program. Think I paid $25.00 to register and get the bracelet for the chiffonier drawer!
It was kind of funny when he refused to wear it, I zipped it in a jacket pocket. In a million years he’d never would have paid attention but he caught on right away, unzipped it and informed me he didn’t need it ( for the 2nd time, ha,ha).

We often sit with friends and discuss the “world in general” – always say I feel 99% of the people are loving, caring, good people – we all have the same aspirations of survival, kindness and friendliness to our fellow man. Too bad for the small percentage of bad apples:)
