“Arms of Steel”

His arms of steel enveloped me in a familiar embrace -
“You’re cold,” I said.
“You’re sad,” he said as I slipped into the water – tears blending as one.

Several years ago Dad invited Us to his Seniors’ Christmas dinner. (He thought it would be a good introduction for my Man to the group – joining never happened, BTW.)

We arrived an hour early to help set tables and chairs, then decorate them. This was fine with him and he felt good.

After our dinner was served, there were several draws for little gifts, one of which was a Christmas cactus. Guess who won it. My Dad was so happy for my Man that he whacked his fist into his open palm scaring half the table.

Ever since, this plant has been very important to my guy and blooms several times a year as thanks.

Last night he asked if maybe it needed a new pot and soil. At 10pm. I could have said “tomorrow” but whatever. We found a great little pot, did our deed and here is the result. Only took minutes, really.

(The blooms are a soft pink although look white – too much flash?)
