Back in 1974, he bought a computer chess set. He didn’t have chess partners so this was helpful.

Eventually a chess club formed but he still used the computer to plan his strategies. It’s all Greek to me:)

Anyway, a few years back I noticed he wasn’t on the board any more and commented. He said it’s too difficult now. I suggested he set his level to “beginner’s” and play there. It was kind of touching when he said it’s not the chess level, it’s this – pointing to his head.
