“Tomorrow you have to help me to get wood in, Hon.”
“Wood, we don’t have wood or I would have brought some in.”
“Yes, in your workshop – we bought 2 cords in October.”
“I don’t think so but we’ll check.”
These pictures don’t really show the little tree well but here they are. This tree is in the dining area of the family kitchen.
Interesting to watch couples as I stroll thru the mall – a lesson in love or indifference. Some are so tuned to each other while the cold reality shows with others.
To torment myself , I guess, I pay particular attention to older folks. Some look so unhappy, alone – detached from each other. Surely after “staying” together all those years, it would seem worth the effort to smile at one another. Luckily some are still delighted in one another and it shows. They are the ones I envy!
Ashamed to confess that the monster god of envy creeps into my heart when I see couples doing things together – laughing, talking and shopping. I have to confess that I even hate them for a fleeting second til I remember we had that. We loved and laughed and shopped til we dropped. We dined and holidayed and entertained. We held hands like silly old fools -not realizing it as we bobbed thru the crowds. We had favorite songs and movies – favorite booths -”our booth”, favorite hotels and cabins.
We skied and swam naked in our pool at midnight hoping the bats wouldn’t mind:) Prayed the neighbors were all tucked in bed. Why do you think we planted that thick cedar hedge!
We still have a lot. We love each other. We have each other.
