Years ago, when W was still working, he would meet me in town after my staff Christmas luncheon. Our dental office preferred to bail out at 1pm on the last day and have a late lunch at a ritzy place.

Ritzy it was but the serving sizes did not do the trick for me. At 5pm, W would meet me in town and we did a bit of shopping and then had dinner!

The girls used to tease me about this.

After he couldn’t drive any longer, I would hurry through the grocery store for a few items and go home to him. The first year was very difficult.

The loss of the traditions and the difficulty initiating new ones when every day is a new day is so hard. I appreciate how hard this is for both of you.

What strikes me is the tenderness of the moments you and W. share. There are many losses, and very little predictability. You and W. have had something most couples do not attain. One of my friends once said, “Is it still a gift if it is taken away too soon?” I say, “even more so because you understand how precious it was.” Thanks for the insight and love you share. THIS is why your blog blesses me. love, annie
