Ah, I’m so weird (no, really). I washed all the bath mats and didn’t put them down again til last night – didn’t want footprints on them – guests start arriving at 3pm today (yeah).
Gave W a set to put in a bathroom. He merrily took the mats and I thought no more of it. I checked that bathroom a few minutes ago.
Again I wonder how his brain ( or the brain of any Alzheimer’s person) misfires. The rectangular mat was perfectly in position but upside down. The toilet mat was set 90 degrees off but right side up. But not all willy nilly messy. Very neatly – which is how he ran his life and office, etc.
This is not criticism – just an observation and my never ending wonder of how it works – or doesn’t.
Boy, did we ever get a snowfall today! W went out to shovel while I prepared dishes. No go. Poor fellow was lost out there. I donned my hat, gloves and heavy jacket.
Miraculously, S&R arrived. He grabbed a shovel. Thank you!
M&M arrive tomorrow at 3pm. I am preparing their bedroom tonight and their gift basket of goodies.
Merry Christmas to all – and thanks for all your support over the past months. I feel like a supreme whiner.
Why I’m sitting here reading blogs instead of working. More fun.
We are by the fire – I put more wood on – He broke that smile I love so dearly,”Take it easy with the wood. It doesn’t grow on trees you know.”
This picture of us (our feet!) was taken in Jasper Sept. 04 as we enjoyed our fire in the cabin.
MiHwa and Mark arrive Dec.23rd for 3 days. I’m making salmon that night.
Christmas Eve everyone comes to our house for snacks, shrimp, sausage rolls, etc.
On Christmas Day, Neil and Dan arrive at 1pm – we have turkey dinner around 7pm. Then on Dec. 27th, Y’all come back for a buffet of whatever is here – and there will be lots!Shirl makes dinner the 26th.
We got the mail today and were delighted to get a card from the MD who first prescribed Aricept for W. We met her as she was doing locum for our family doc.
Our appointment was for something totally unrelated to Alzheimer’s but she looked at him and me – light bulbs went off and a big discussion later we had a Rx for Aricept in our hand and a wonderful new world ahead. She couldn’t believe they hadn’t at least started him on it.
She has always held a soft spot since in our hearts. One day I was delighted to see her as a new patient in our dental practice! What a totally lovely person.
We have kept in touch ever since. She did move about 80 miles away but that’s nothing in this day and age. Bless your heart for many reasons, dear doctor, but especially for initiating a medication which gave me my Man back for awhile. Big hugs being sent your way but you know that anyway!

We (meaning I) went looking for area rugs again. For persons trying to make a sale, I would suggest you don’t give my Man “the look”. I realize he doesn’t know up from down sometimes and today was topsy turvy but my money is still good!!!
I found a wonderful Belgium rug – only $1400. – gulp. The colors were perfect and when I asked W’s opinion, he offered up something along the lines that didn’t we just put new floors in??? Explained that we did but this is to go over the new floor.
The look of disdain (on the salesman’s face) really turned me off – when M&M come, I may go back with them to see it. The store allows a 24 hour period with the new rug at home to see if it fits. I pity the guy if he tosses any looks at Dad when Mark is there. Mark would not say much to the person but maybe something along the lines, “We’ll just deal with someone else for this one.”
Anyway, we still have Saturday to shop and I may actually go back and get it on trial.
