Forgot to mention, when W went out to shovel, as you can see in this pic, he runs the shovel the length of the drive – pushing a lot of snow. I was getting ready and called out to him to shovel across the driveway – towards Brenda’s.
“I am.” Was slightly irritated with me. I only got him to allow the pic by telling him I needed proof to show him that he shoveled this year. He loved that idea and got a good laugh.
Not wanting to sound pessimistic, but I ordered pizza last night because he loves it so much – never know when we’ll come to the bend in the journey.
Delighted, he took a piece and sat back in his chair, napkin in hand. Took a bite, covered the remaining pizza with his napkin – another bite, covered the remaining pizza. I sat intrigued wondering what he would do with the last bite. He held it in his hand and studied it, bit it in 2 pieces, looked down at his plate – seemed perplexed.
I offered another slice and he did it all over again.
Wondered if this were a hint of behavior I’ve read about where the person with Alzheimer’s worries people have stolen or are stealing from them. Or maybe he is just exhibiting his very neat former self.
Wish I didn’t have to analyze everything. Has anyone ever seen this behavior?
Anyway, it was an intriguing “first” for me to see.
He found an Elvis DVD in his collection. I’m not “crazy” about him but W is, so I watched.
Next morn, I mentioned that we enjoyed the Elvis movie.
“Oh, did I watch an Elvis movie?”
“Yup”
“I don’t remember,” with a puzzled look on his face.
“You liked it.”
He burst out laughing. “Thank goodness or I’d have to watch it again.”
(Secretly to self, “Thank goodness.”)
One resolution went “poof” immediately upon waking. I heard my neighbor Rob wheeling his garbage container out to the road. First thought was, “Darn, get up quickly and roll ours out.”
Then I lay back and laughed and laughed – he probably forgot it was Jan 1st with no pickup! (Neg thoughts, happiness, laughter at others expense – not nice)
Ruth – I have a solution to some of the mail – we pick up at a cluster of mail boxes. Now I sort anything “not addressed” and toss it back in the “mail to go”. Solves one little thing.
Doc – from balabusta in the wilds: been meaning to buy Melatonin – it’s been on my list. PS Have you guys dug out from your heavy snowfall?
Annie: Tough one with the Co*e – I’d rather have a second of the main course than eat dessert or drink pop. (Those seconds are another resolution I forgot to write down along with many others!)
Bev – your attitude is the healthiest of all! More power to you.
Changes – ah, play your day away blogging. Sounds a bit too familiar for comfort or discussion!
The new year is under 2 hours old. I wanted to start the year sleeping well – not a resolution, just a dream.
Have a couple thoughts for the new year, I guess they are resolutions.
(1) Don’t handle anything twice – this worked well last year if I did it. eg: hang your coat in the closet right off, don’t drape it on a chair and then hang it. Seems so simple a thought – I’m working on it – that was my biggie last year.
(2) Positive spin on the day or the event, weather, etc. This is going to take some work!
(3) Organize my time a bit more productively allowing reading/hobby time in the day. Am usually on my own til about 4pm so I have lots of time to myself.
Any thoughts?
