We decided to look in my favorite boutique for a gift. It was very slushy and dirty outside so we wiped out feet and he remained on the carpet at the door – I’m sure for that reason. The store is very small and has one employee, the owner. There were no other customers.

She didn’t have the gift item I had in mind so told her I’d browse a bit. After a couple minutes, she turned to my man and sarcastically asked, “Afraid to come off the carpet?” and of course laughed at her wit. My heart broke for him as he scurried over to my side.

I left immediately and we went home.

She and I are having a chat on Monday – rudeness like that is not tolerated in my world. I’ve spent quite a bit at her store for all occasions – no more.

Of course, she doesn’t know he has Alzheimer’s – all the more reason for the chat. I pulled all the sale slips from last year and will present them with a total – then tell her I won’t darken her door again. Hope she thinks twice before she belittles someone with what she thinks is humor.

I’m not angry, just heartbroken for him. I won’t tolerate anyone who is not kind.
