In my quest to downsize, I gave away a lot of my crystal – which used to be in my Mom’s china cabinet in our kitchen. Ended up with 2 empty shelves, happy, happy.
Walked into the kitchen to see him crouched down, murmuring to the cabinet. I was kind of sick inside and walked over to him – if only he were talking to the cabinet – he looked up at me and smiled – “Buddy likes his little house, it’s just the right size for him.”
Accck! The cat was snuggled on one of the empty shelves looking, well, comfortable. Now, I can’t give him heck because he would never do this before AD – he would have freaked.
“We can’t let him in there, Hon, he’s dirty.”
Indignant, “Buddy’s not dirty.”
So I had just washed all the shelves and glasses when I sorted the stuff – oh, I’m retired, have lots of time -grrr.
The only good thing is I caught him and knew about it.
All our married life, he did the work around the house. I don’t even know how to operate a power drill. Well, I could run it but may not know how to reverse it and change bits. I will learn.
Does she have a point? Yes, for the first time ever, I stained raw oak stair nosing (only one) and also the transition pieces between bedrooms and halls and baths. For you handy ladies, you’re probably rolling on the floor but it was quite the full meal deal for me.
We have 2 steps down to the living room – one set at the dining room and one set off the front entry. Those nosings were custom ordered oak and milled to the correct length so there would be no joints. I was too chicken to stain them so paid mucho $ to have it done. What a nut – there was nothing to it – easy to say now! I watched him and decided I’d do the other smaller pieces.
Victory comes in small stages for me!
(Today, I screwed all the electrical plates back on -again, a first. Left them off since Dec. as was going to get all new switches, etc. but I’m too busy to have a guy messing around the house right now. So, put them all back on.)
Did you hear the computer beep and give his opinion
Yup, must have had it coming.
We were chatting with our sons – I am so grateful they call as I’m sure it helps keep the Dad/son connection alive another day.
Last night Computer Son and I were discussing our home and staying here versus a condo, etc. He tossed out some good suggestions and ideas of comfort to me. After I hung up, looked around the house and thought, “I can’t part with his desk, his chair, his tools, the roll top he bought ‘specially for me!” But I will have to and I know that.
Chef made me feel so good. He called, opening with, “Hi, Mom, remember those big breakfasts you used to make?” The conversation flowed from there but I was so pumped up that he wanted my recipe and some advice – he, a professional chef! Man, doesn’t get any better:)
He offered advice on hiring workers for our pruning this spring. Couldn’t do without you two. Love Mom
