Today was frenzied, frantic and funny – I had to get him up earlier than usual as I had a 2:30pm appt. with my optometrist. He balked at bathing last night so “paid the price this morn.” Anyway, in the course of our getting ready, I mentioned that we had an appointment at 2:30 so had to get boots/coats on.

“What?! Not me, why me. I don’t need an appointment.”

If it weren’t so sad it would be funny – told him I had the appointment, not him.

He was happy beyond happy.

He also fusses about walking so in order to get his sluggish attitude/circulation kick started, I always park as far away from “the place” as possible. My ploy isn’t lost on him and he threatens in fun, to call for a cab. You can’t win and have to be one step ahead – - -

Thanks to everyone who had suggestions re: “difficulty bathing”.

Today I had him strip and put his robe on in the bedroom, let him go to the tub himself and wait til I hear him sit down before I “offer” to wash his back. Before he goes in, I have a clean facecloth loaded with shampoo, very wet, just sitting at the back of the tub. He seemed to accept having his hair shampooed by doing this. Another wet, loaded facecloth is full of Dove soap to help with the water. I just let it fall in the water and he didn’t notice. I also give him his comb to take care of his hair while it’s wet. Just easier than wrestling his curls down later. He hasn’t had a cut since Oct. so he’s a 60′s man once again – hopefully soon! (“My hair’s not long, it’s just getting good.”)

When he is ready to get out, I hold his bath sheet up for “privacy” and he wraps himself in it. Helps for me to use a smaller, thick towel to do his back, chest and legs. Then I offer to run the hair blower over his back, chest and legs. He seems to like that “as he doesn’t like to get wet.”

I have a towel on our bed where I clip his nails and a big bath sheet folded in 4 so he can sit on the bed and not get it wet – plus it helps dry him. Hand him deodorant and his clean clothes and we’re done.

And the best, Buddy is now in the bathroom as he bathes. W loves that and it distracts him – I really expect to have 2 in the tub one day – one slip and he’s in.

I guess that would be fodder for a post:)
