Today I worked in his shop for several hours. His tools are a mess and many have rusted. I’m sorting through them making up tool kits so I have one in the garage and one downstairs.
We keep our winter wood in there and it’s a real mess – last fall we stacked several cords but over the winter he just kind of pulled wood from anywhere – so it’s 3 rows deep and about 3 feet high – don’t know how that happened.
After he ate, I explained we could stack the wood in 2 rows to make more room in the shop. Also suggested we bring hand tools in to clean. He became very upset and belligerent, “I just don’t understand what you’re doing.” The conversation plummeted from there so I suggested he go in and read and I’d topsoil the garden beds.
Came in to check on him and he was fast asleep. This is the very reason I should leave this house for a condo situation. He is capable physically to help me but no longer able to digest the reason for the work or able to process it.
Our neighbors came over – had heard the shop conversation. They offered to help with the yard. I would let her maybe weed a bit but it’s my responsibility. Told me today they don’t want us to move and will help in order to let us stay – so sweet. About 35 years of age and the nicest couple.
Anyway, woke him a bit later and he was all happy and I’m sure doesn’t remember being dragged out there:) I read once that if there is a good thing about AD, it is that the person with AD quickly forgets they are upset and what they were upset about. So true.

I stumbled down the hall to the sunny living room – he looked up at me, coffee and newspaper in hand.
“Why didn’t you wake me, how long have you been up? Can’t believe I slept this long.” Groan, “I need coffee!”
He laughed and set his paper down. “It’s good for you to sleep in once in awhile. I ran down and bought the groceries on the list and popped in to visit Mom. Phoned the plumber – he’ll come on Friday. Uh, stopped by Tim Hor*on’s and grabbed some muffins. Here.”
Said thanks and reminded him I was meeting the girls for lunch and then going to the ladies’ bowling league. “If the tour company calls, just give them our MC number, the girls and I are off to Spokane on a shopping trip on the 20th, remember?”
He smiled his smile, “Going to boost the US economy, are you? While you’re away will be a good time for me to build the deck.”
Caught myself as I rolled to the edge of the bed, woke up with a start and wished it weren’t a dream. It was so real.
