We got in a bit too late to plan on cooking a dinner – put out submarine buns and “all the fixings”.

Usually I would make the buns up and serve them but had lots of ingredients so thought he could choose his own.

It was very interesting – he had his bun plain (til I suggested condiments). Each ingredient was set precisely on his plate e.g: Tomato slices, cheese slices, lettuce, meat, etc.

Wondering what he’d do, I just carried on making mine. He used his knife and fork and ate each item separately. In the end, he ate his bun which had only condiments on it.

When I offered a second bun, he agreed. I made it for him the usual way – no comment from either of us. It’s not a big deal but it is another “first”.

That seems a good lesson for you. Now you know that you should make the sandwich for him next time.

What is sad, is that he knows he is to eat them, just not remembering how to assemble the sandwich.
