It looks like you have a semi-stuck keyboard. Do you have a spare? Plug it in, and see if that solves the problem. (I have an old thrift store keyboard on hand, for emergencies like this.)
I think you said you’re not mechanical. So I won’t suggest difficult fixes.
If you are using a separate keyboard, you’re in luck. If it’s a laptop, you’ll need help.
If you have a stand-alone keyboard and no spare, try turning it upside down and slapping its back, like you would do to a choking baby.
Blow the dust out. Use the back end of your vaccuum, if you have that kind of attachment, but filter the air through an old stocking. Or use a hair dryer/stocking combo.
I periodically turn mine upside-down and just shake it. I am always surprised at what falls out. Crumbs, hair, fragments of paper, you name it. These things get under the keys and stop their free movement.
I used to take Dad’s keyboards every month or so (he ate Spanish peanuts and crackers at the computer) and wash them under a running tap, with dish soap. I drained them thoroughly, then set them on their side against the wall, with the instruction to Dad not to use them for at least three days. It always worked.
Hope that solves the problem.
P.S.
If you wash a keyboard, unplug it first. And don’t plug it in until it’s completely dry, inside and out. Or you’ll have fried keyboard.
Boy I am not sure on this one. I see an accent mark, so you might have reset the language for your keyboard. Not sure how to fix, but it appears that way. Try others’ suggestions first, but that is what it looks like to me. Good luck! love, a
We’re normal again. I just shut it down, stomped on it and that did the trick. Thanks for your helpful suggestions, Susannah. I did clean it by vacuum.
Annie,I think it was set for something else – seemed like Fr.
Was typing and missed/hit several keys at once when it happened:)
Jean–I had to laugh at wanderin’weeta’s solution. Wash the keyboard? On purpose?
My solution would have been–turn the computer off. When all else fails, do a hard reboot! I.e. turn it off.
But, glad it’s fixed.
KG Mom;
Wash the keyboard? Of course. I learned that trick from a computer repair shop.
But you’re right about the hard reboot. That should have been first. Then, if the problem persists, go on to the other fixes.
