RN – you had some trouble with the door lock
W – Jean put a new one on and I didn’t know she did
RN – what would you do if Jean fell and broke her leg in the garden or house
W – I’d look after her
RN – there are 3 numbers you can dial in an emergency and get help 24 hours a day – do you know them?
W – no, that’s something new since I retired
RN – the numbers are: 911 – would you mind if I wrote them on a card and put them over the phone
W – you don’t need to, I’d know to dial them
RN – what your BD
W – August ———-funny, I can’t remember
RN – how long have you guys been married
W – (laughing) a long time
RN – you are in bed a lot – will you promise me to bathe at least every other day
W – sure, but I do that now
RN – Would you show me where you sleep please
W – uh – - –
RN – show me where you have your bath
W – there used to be a bathroom in our bedroom but I don’t think there is anymore
RN – I think you need a Life Line (looking at me)
W – not me
RN – no for Jean, I think she should have help available
W – well, I’d look after her but I don’t mind if she gets it
RN – will you go to the seniors’ club
W – sure, was there once
This is a sampling – she ended her visit giving Wayne her card – “This is a direct line to my desk, you may call anytime.”
He was very impressed and put it in his wallet.
Tracey deserves a big star for diplomacy – I have always loved her.
Thank you, Everyone – the visit went well. Tracey is just #1 in my books and treated Wayne with respect and lots of humor.
Home care will start in June (?) for one 4 hour session per week. That is all the province allows and it’s all I need – Shirl helps me out a lot, too.
A relief shared among friends -
