Steak and mushrooms. I think it’s his favorite dinner (after fruit and vegetables!!!) Sorry, that was catty.

Tonight we’re having S&R over for a BBQ. Steak, baked potato, mushrooms, salad and Italian marinated vegetables, French bread – no, not garlic. Plain. I would have garlic but being he prefers plain, so be it.

I bought 4 strip loin steaks – look great. Payback time for all the meals they have served us:)

He would be happy with steak and mushrooms so I plate his meal – then he eats all.

It’s warm and sunny, too warm to be in the sun. By evening, the sun will be around to the front of our house. Cute memory: when we bought this place, he was pleased it faced west/east for a shady back deck. Our former house was north/south with the deck south.
Another memory: Mom and Dad only served T-bone steaks. She used to call her butcher and order them – always perfect. Well, she came to visit us and went to the chain grocery. Looking for T-bones. Asks their butcher for T-bones. “Right there, Ma’am.” They were a poor excuse for T-bone and she told him. “My husband cut meat for years, those have no tenderloin!” I was quietly slinking away as a teenager would whose Mom embarrassed her. Feisty little thing, she was.

Happy Saturday, Everyone. Hope it’s a really good one.

I would agree with her about T-bones. I remember them from my childhood – with big tenderloins so tender you could slice them with a fork. Nowadays, it is hard to find them cut like that.

Hope you had a great time with your company.

Love your mom! And she is right. Grocery store meat doesn’t hold a torch to the old-fashioned butchers who used to be proud of their profession. My mom used to return roasts of beef if she got home and found there was lots of fat underneath (deliberately padded so the person would pay more). And she would tell the butcher if a roast or steak was unsatifactory. Her money was always cheerfully refunded – sales slip or no. Those were the good old days.
