One of his best friends called today wondering if he and his wife could swing by and pick us up for the funeral. Besides the visit, it will be so good for Wayne to have his friend sitting right with him.

I kind of wonder about Wayne’s reaction to the services. Hope it will be comforting.

He and our friend used to bet $5 per game for World Series, Stanley Cup and Grey Cup. The loser had to write a letter of disgrace and ask forgiveness for the team’s poor showing, etc. Anyway, Wayne always let her choose her team so she couldn’t cry fowl that he knew the favored team.

One time, he told her to choose one of two teams not even in the playoffs. According to her recollection, she was at a hoity toity dinner and conversation came around to hockey. She proudly announced her favorite – to dead silence. Finally someone clued her in – I guess he was in big trouble once she caught him.

When the NJ Devils won, and therefore she won, I baked a devils food bundt cake, iced it and he put his coins in a sandwich ziplock bag in the centre. Great fun.

So – - – - due to lots of fun times and memories, it may be a difficult time for him – or not faze him much at all.

Could someone please tell me where the week went? Zip and it was gone.

We have great news in that our brother-in-law’s pacemaker was 100% successful. Needed a few other tweaks of the ol’ body and he’s back in fine form. Fancy u-shaped cut on his forehead, nice suturing job done, though. Now if his black eyes would disappear, we’d have him back.

S&R live 30 minutes south of our “little town” – they are in the big smoke. Wayne and I slept there for a few nights this past week to drive him to medical checks and Shirl to physio. We were treated to evening BBQ’s and lots of laughs.

My dear man did as well as he could – I guess one day he woke up on the wrong side of the bed – I was at the hospital with Robin and apparently Wayne was not pleased. Like any good nurse, Shirl bribed him with ice cream for breakfast (til I got home) and all was well in his world.

That’s a quick summation of our week – missed everyone and will write more and also read blogs. I checked email, only, at their home.
