Sitting together with the Christmas tree lights on, Buddy at his feet, I’m by his side. His eyes are closed but he’s not sleeping – taking a break from the world which requires thinking and talking and answers.
My prayer for him is that his mind is at peace. I think it is. He is serene.
I dialed her direct line, it rang several times. As voice mail cut in, I hung up – wordless. Anyone who knows me would smile at “wordless”.
So, after another cup of coffee, for fortitude, I dialed again. Left my name and number for the RN to book the week of respite in the New Year. I feel like such a jerk doing it – he is so sweet.
Just talked to Chef – he assured it’s best for Dad. Thank you, dear Son. Also, he’s trying to book time in the New Year to use up many weeks of accumulated time – one week will be in January. He told me to just book the respite and if it coincides with his holidays, he’ll still take the time but book again to come home.
