He was discharged and walking on air. Soon as we turned the corner and entered the foyer, I heard beeping – thought it was an IV monitor so ignored it.

He said, “That cursed thing.”  It beeped more urgently the closer we got to the door.

Finally I caught on, his alarm had not been removed.

I was  about to move him away from the area when an RN came running with scissors. She apologized and he was all smiles – he just wanted out of there.

I have a feeling he headed to the door often during his stay because he was really annoyed with it:)

So the happy bubble burst yesterday afternoon – the care home called us to come pick up clothing  “you had left behind”. I was puzzled as had even checked the shelves in his closets by standing on a chair.

As soon as we turned into the parking lot, he was upset. I even left my purse in the trunk so he could see I wasn’t carrying anything (to check him in again).

Couldn’t leave him in the car and couldn’t get him to go in.

Eventually, a nurse saw us and called out, “Hi Wayne, come get the clothes you left behind.” He agreed and was Mr. Social Butterfly for the next 20 minutes, eye always on the door, though.

Interestingly, the clothing and toque were items lost in February ’09 – they had been kicking around the nurses’ station til finally a nurse called us.

To make a long story shorter, he was antsy all night. I finally got up at 3 a.m. as couldn’t sleep anyway. Right now I feel like a zombie and will head for bed while he’s still asleep.

We arrived home, talked a bit to assure him all was well.

By 12 noon, fatigue from stress hit. We slept til 6:30pm.

Back in bed at 11pm.

Happy to report he was not as upset as his first time.
