I walked up to his private room just as he and his nurse were coming out. We ran to each other and hugged.
Advancing from our right side, a male patient approached, speaking either a language I did not understand or was deep into his disease.
At first only monosyllables, then “sentences”. He was angry.
Started punching Wayne in the left arm, shoulder and his back. We were still holding one another.
Wayne said, “Hey, hey, hey!” By this time, a male nurse and 2 others were calling to him to stop and come to them.
I yelled at him to stop hitting Wayne and he threw 3 upper punches to my right jaw. It happened so quickly I just stood there frozen, didn’t even try to move.
By now the nurses were helping. Wayne was furious he hit me and took off after the guy. I was able to hold him and steer him to his room. Locked bedroom door and bath door.
(The admin called and said this patient has been sent to the acute care hospital for psychiatric examination.)
My concern is for Wayne as he doesn’t feel pain as before. The fellow who went after us was not all that tall but very stocky and strong. Will go to a walk in clinic today, I think, as jaw, temple, left and right sides of neck sore. Can’t open mouth too wide and sore to chew, even softer food.
Whoa–so much for WELCOME home. Sad, but scary.
I hope the punches did no damage to you.
Looking forward to catching up.
I am so sorry that your reunion was so marred. I too hope that there was no damage to your body. Hope all is well when you got home and settled in. Blessings..Mary Lou
Wow. It can happen in a split second. I’m so sorry you were hurt. That must have been very unsettling for you both. I can just picture you both running to each other, though–a sweet moment. Once more you experience Wayne’s protection even through the disease. Love transcends such amazing opposition. Welcome home, my friend. Hope you had an amazing time. My girls didn’t say that they ran into you, but you would have had to be shopping!
Take care of yourself and write again soon. You are an amazingly strong woman. Love, Annette
I am so sorry to hear this happened to you and Wayne. It must have been such a frightening incident. We never expect to be assaulted anywhere, and certainly not under these circumstances.
I hope your physical and psychological injuries heal soon. I’ll be thinking of you.
Oh my goodness, this must have been such a shock to you and Wayne. I hope both of you are okay, and thankfully the patient has been moved.
What a welcome home!
Looking forward to hearing of your adventures…
What an ordeal…hope you both will be okay.
I’m sorry! Hope you are OKay!
Oh my,a terrible story, but Wayne is still your hero — protecting you.
I’m so glad you’re back, but so sorry to hear about all this. Oh my.
Oh, Jean, I am absolutely horrified! I am so sorry. Please go get yourself checked out, just to be sure. What an ordeal! Praying for your full recovery.
Love, Laura
I am horrified as well – I imagine you are feeling the physical pain but also the emotional pain of what might have happened with Wayne while you were not there. I think of you often and worried when you hadn’t posted for so long. Take care – Marsha
oh, that is so scary. I do hope you are ok, with no residual pains. It seems they did not have him on precautions like they should have….Wayne still knows to protect you doesn’t he.
Glad you are back together. Hope you feel renewed.
Welcome home and sorry for your scaru welcomeing home . So glad Wayne protected you. I hope you are ok.
Oh, I cannot believe that happened!! So scary and sad. I hope you will feel better soon and that Wayne will forget about it.
That is the scariest thing. I hope you are alright. God bless.
This makes me want to cry for you both.
HUGS
Welcome Home . . . Jean
Sometimes not exactly what is expected but another example of the depths of love even with the fog of Az always there.
The pain and discomfort you feel now will hopefully disappear quickly but the trauma from this incident will surely linger.
You and your family are in everyone’s prayers so know you can gain strength from us.
Glad to hear from you!

OMG Jean. What more do you poor folks have to deal with?? I hope you don’t have a fracture.
I know that violence can become a sympton on the disease but I truly hope the home has a better grip on things so these types of “accidents” don’t happen again.
Hugs
Yikes!!! What a horrible Welcome!!!!! Hope you are feeling a wee bit better by now and Wayne is o.k. Yikes!!!
And through it all, Wayne’s first instinct was to protect you. God, I’m crying!
Horrible and beautiful at the same time.
I hope you aren’t too sore, or injured seriously.
I’ve been out of town these last two days – OMG – what a home coming! I sure hope you are feeling better.
