“What color tinsel would you like?”
“Red!”
So, yesterday we decorated Wayne’s suite. As per his request, he has red tinsel looped over his large window. Silver and green balls adorn it. He loved the wreath which is also done in same colors.
If one can’t be home, it’s at least Christmassy!
His smile lit up the room as he chatted with 2 other fellows at their luncheon table. It was so good to see he had men to talk with.
One fellow introduce himself and said he was only in for a few days. I shuddered thinking maybe his family said that on admittance – it turns out he has Parkinson’s and is in for respite. Sure hate to see him go.
Luckily for Wayne, the other guy is a permanent resident. He has accident induce Alzheimer’s and is really humorous – a really fun person.
In other good news. the BLANKET has been found. It mysteriously appeared on his bed the next day and the fleece one for his chair was “mysteriously” on the bed under the “lost” blanket. Hmmmm – - – Anyway, I let it go and didn’t comment.
That song says it all, we are having poor weather with lots of snow. Didn’t go to the care home yesterday and may not today. I am fine as have winter, studded tires but others drive crazily in this mess.
Actually, last night a former co-worker called that he was going to visit – he lives near the home. I was very happy to hear that. Wayne would have been delighted to have a visitor.
Will update on the blanket saga once I go there again.
Thank you for your kind words of support – the loss of something large like a blanket puzzles me.
So, the second new, fleece blanket has gone missing from Wayne’s bed. He is on a locked, therefore secure ward but patients can roam from room to room, “shopping”.
To say I’m choked is the least. He doesn’t even realize the blanket is missing – he needs it for warmth. Anyway, tomorrow, I’ approaching the nurses’ desk requesting one goes with me from room to room til we find it. The blanket is a bright marine blue, brand new and $40! Did I add it’s very toasty and warm, also?
A couple weeks ago his navy throw from his chair disappeared and has never been recovered. If we don’t recover this fleece, I’m requesting a move to a unit where patients are not quite so far into their disease and don’t wander to others’ rooms.
It’s disappointing for me as the care seems good, the food is fine and Wayne seems to have settled quite well. If I can get him moved to the other unit, it will be good.
Hope all is well with my blogging buddies. (Sorry to sound like a grouch but I feel very grouchy over this – and there are no more at the store so can’t replace it.)
I need to win the lotto – being I always forget to buy a ticket, it’s likely I won’t win!
It is increasingly difficult to leave Wayne at the nursing home. The staff and care are great but “I could do better and I want him home with me”.
Today I arrived at supper hour (just to change his day a bit). He was nursing a coffee, waiting for his main course.
I walked around him, into his view. He looked at me, right thru me, “Who are you?”
Tears my heart right out. Luckily the “code” worked and he jumped up and hugged me forever.
We had a great 3 hours and before I left, I washed him, brushed his teeth and got him into his jammies.
Darn, darn, darn.
