A dear friend was “talking” to Buddy recently and told him was was now retired and should live the good life.

As regular readers know, Buddy was Wayne’s buddy/guardian/comfort since December 2003.

He faithfully lay by Wayne’s feet, sat in his lap or cuddled Wayne’s feet in bed.

When Wayne started tossing around in bed at night, Buddy literally hung on to the covers. It was actually comical as he’d be tossed like a cork in a stream. As the spasms increased, Buddy was tossed off the bed twice when he was in a dead sleep. I would awake to “thump” and a bewildered cat crawling back on the bed! After the second time, he chose to sleep just aside from Wayne’s feet – after Wayne fell asleep.

The SPCA had named the cat Lynx (for his furry paws) but Wayne said he needed a better name – the only name which seemed perfect was “Buddy” and a buddy he was.

If Wayne went downstairs, the cat would sit and listen for Wayne’s footsteps. If he were “lost”, Buddy would look at me as if to say, “Go help Dad, he’s going the wrong way.”

So, here’s to you Bud, relax and enjoy the rest of your days. Love “Mom”

Oh, that makes me cry. What would we do without our faithful friends. When Don died, our cat was distressed. Then she began jumping up on the bed at night and getting under the covers with me, just looking into my face. It was a comfort to me, but I knew she was wondering where on earth he was. Bless you, Buddy.

I was relieved when I read that Buddy was well. My first thought when I read that Buddy was retired, that maybe he’d retired to cat heaven.

Animals are such a blessing!!! Buddy’s job now will be to look after you.
    love,
    dolores

It appears that “Jean” and “Buddy” mean the same thing — “Faithful”.

I know Buddy can relax and be a cat now, but, he is probably dreaming of all his “buddy days” with Wayne….

I’m with Dolores–I read this post with bated breath–where was Buddy. Relieved that for now, he is enjoying retirement. I hope he is not too confused with the change of role.

Buddy has many warm and wonderful memories, I’m sure. They will get him through each day. :)

Happy New Year, my friend. Missed you!

Poor Buddy must be bewildered now that Wayne isn’t there. Can you take him to visit?

I hope that Buddy will become as dear to you sa he was to Wayne.

What a beautiful tribute! What would we do without our 4-leg buddies? … Oh, I don’t even want to go there!
Looking forward to hearing more about Buddy this year!

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how animals affect our lives during different time periods.
Is Wayne missing Buddy I’m wondering?
