So, today a nurse introduced us to a resident who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Such an amazing woman. She wheels herself around in a wheelchair, her hair still “salt and pepper” and her mind is pretty good as good goes at 100!
Anyway, she wheeled into Wayne’s room, pulling right up to his bed and fingered his beautiful (new!) fleece blanket. “I’m looking for my hounds tooth coat, the nurses took it away from me.”
Wayne informed her rather sternly that this was his blanket, not her coat. She shot back that she could tell it was not hounds tooth!
After I wheeled her out, I suggested he be patient as she’s 100. “I don’t care if she’s 110, I don’t want her in my room.” My man’s getting tough:)
Woo hoo–you go, Wayne.
Thanks for this story. It is good to read about the life that continues.
It just didn’t feel right for him. SAndie
A lovely cameo you painted,of characterful personalities interacting, Jean!
Wayne was not going to have pulling of rank or seniority in his space when not invited, but obviously he did it in a gentlemanly way.Sounds like good news too of Wayne settling and his new room is seeming like ‘his space from home’. Thanks for sharing and bringing a warm smile across the pond to Wales, UK, (snowed in here)
So glad to hear of the positive New Year changes for you both. Wishing they may continue.
Love Chris
Good for Wayne. He knows that age doesn’t justify rudeness.
Maybe he remembers the last time his blanket disappeared.
Oh what a great story!
Love,
dolores
My mother-in-law was the same way. She didn’t like patients coming into her room without an invitation.
I love his feistiness!
Hugs,
